A megújuló energiaforrások szerepe és hatásai a hazai agrárgazdaságban AgEcon
Magda, Robert.
A fosszilis tüzelőanyagok korlátaiból adódóan új...

Assessment of the Potential Implementation of Solar Energy Generation in State Schools in Curitiba/PR BABT
Pereira,Juliano da Silva; Ribeiro,Daniele Abe; Lucena,Francielle Henrique; Urbanetz Júnior,Jair.
ABSTRACT Solar energy as a form of electric power generation is gaining ground in Brazil, being the subject of worldwide discussions on sustainability. The electric energy, a right of all citizens, represents a consumption of natural resources on a large scale. State schools in Paraná invested more than R$ 46 million to guarantee electricity and thus provide essential running conditions to the system in 2016. Through open data, 15 schools from "Regional Administrativa do Cajuru", in Curitiba/PR, were evaluated in consumption and expenses of electric energy from January to May of 2017 and a solar photovoltaic system was dimensioned to supply the demand of each school. From that, it was estimated the total saving from the electricity that would no longer be...

Az energetikai célú növénytermelés megítélése AgEcon
Szecsei, Timea; Salamon, Lajos.

Tamus, Antalne.
Our aim was to establish the specific objectives and toolkit of eco-energetic marketing targeting the North Hungarian region, through a primary survey of 600 persons. Our research objective was to examine – taking the region’s economic and social circumstances into consideration – what conditions, consumer reception, and affinity is needed to gain competitive advantage with the involvement of renewable energy sources, and also to point out the characteristics of how the population currently uses energy, its mode and satisfaction level. During the examination of consumers’ familiarity level with renewable energy sources we observed the dominance of solar, hydro, and wind energy, nevertheless, their knowledge about these renewable energy sources was rather...

Cost-Effectiveness of Renewable Electricity Policies AgEcon
Palmer, Karen L.; Burtraw, Dallas.
We analyze policies to promote renewable sources of electricity. A renewable portfolio standard raises electricity prices and primarily reduces gas-fired generation. A "knee" of the cost curve exists between 15% and 20% goals for 2020 in our central case, and higher natural gas prices lower the cost of greater reliance on renewables. A renewable energy production tax credit lowers electricity price at the expense of taxpayers and thus limits its effectiveness in reducing carbon emissions; it also is less cost-effective at increasing renewables than a portfolio standard. Neither policy is as cost-effective as a cap-and-trade policy for achieving carbon emissions reductions.

Design of substrate supply contracts for biogas plants AgEcon
Reise, Christian; Liebe, Ulf; Musshoff, Oliver.
For a sustainable development of energy production in biogas plants, the continuous supply with substrates is essential. To the authors’ knowledge, there have not been carried out any quantitative investigations of farmers’ choices with regard to supply contracts for biogas plants. Thus, it has been only possible to a limited extent to make predictions for a targeted design of supply contracts. We therefore investigated different factors, which might be relevant for the conclusion of substrate supply contracts, by conducting a survey with 178 German farmers. The survey included a choice experiment, in which participants were confronted with different contract attributes (features). These attributes were varied systematically and thus revealed the influence...

Deterioration and fermentability of energy cane juice Ciência Rural
Ceccato-Antonini,Sandra Regina; Bassi,Ana Paula Guarnieri; Paraluppi,Anna Livia; Santos,Eder Gustavo Dias dos; Matsuoka,Sizuo.
ABSTRACT: The main interest in the energy cane is the bioenergy production from the bagasse. The juice obtained after the cane milling may constitute a feedstock for the first-generation ethanol units; however, little attention has been dedicated to this issue. In order to verify the feasibility of the energy cane juice as substrate for ethanol production, the objectives of this research were first to determine the microbiological characteristics and deterioration along the time of the juices from two clones of energy cane (Type I) and second, their fermentability as feedstock for utilization in ethanol distilleries. There was a clear differentiation in the bacterial and yeast development of the sugarcane juices assayed, being much faster in the energy...

Development and performance evaluation of indigenized flat plate collector water heater for domestic and industrial applications CIGR Journal
Ghafoor, Abdul.
Pakistan is facing severe energy crises from the last decade resulting daily electric blackouts from 8 to 12 h. The limited fossil fuel reserves and its environmental consequences have led to boost research and development of alternate energy resources. A huge amount of fossil fuels and electricity is being consumed for the generation of low to medium temperature heat energy for domestic, residential, agro-industrial and processing units. This low to medium temperature heat energy required can easily be fulfilled using solar collectors. This paper focus on the development of a flat plate collector using local infrastructure to reduce its initial cost. The collector consists of a window glass, absorber plate coated with black matt paint, copper tubes, inlet...

Dynamic behaviour of an undulating membrane tidal energy converter under wave and current loading ArchiMer
Träsch, Martin; Delacroix, Sylvain; Déporte, Astrid; Drevet, Jean-baptiste; Gaurier, Benoit; Germain, Gregory.
The dynamic behaviour of an undulating tidal energy converter under wave and current loadings is studied. Therefore, a small scale prototype of a damped pre-stressed undulating membrane is tested in a wave and current recirculatory tank. The membrane’s dynamic profile and hydrodynamic forces are measured synchronously with the surface elevation for both regular and irregular waves in current direction. Spectrum analysis reveals that the response to wave loading depends on the wave frequency and is reduced by damping-type power take-off. Coupling between the wave frequency and the main undulation frequency or its harmonics is also observed. An increase of 30% of the forces must be foreseen in case of wave condition in the tested range.

Economic feasibility of biogas production in swine farms using time series analysis Ciência Rural
Rockenbach,Felipe Luis; Souza,Adriano Mendonça; Oliveira,João Helvio Righi de.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to measure the economic feasibility and the time needed to return capital invested for the installation of a swine manure treatment system, these values originated the sale of carbon credits and/or of compensation of electric energy in swine farms, using the Box-Jenkins forecast models. It was found that the use of biogas is a viable option in a large scale with machines that operate daily for 10h or more, being the return period between 70 to 80 months. Time series analysis models are important to anticipate the series under study behavior, providing the swine breeder/investor means to reduce the financial investment risk as well as helping to decrease the production costs. Moreover, this process can be seen as another source of...

Economic feasibility of converting cow manure to electricity: A case study of the CVPS Cow Power program in Vermont AgEcon
Wang, Qingbin; Thompson, Ethan; Parsons, Robert L.; Rogers, Glenn.
A case study of the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation (CVPS) Cow Power program examines the economic feasibility for dairy farms to convert cow manure into electricity via anaerobic methane digestion. The study confirms that it is technically feasible to convert cow manure to electricity on dairy farms but the economic returns highly depend on the base electricity price paid by CVPS, premium rate paid by CVPS customers, financial supports from government agencies and other organizations, and sales of the by-products of methane generation. Lessons learned from this program will be useful to other dairy farms and communities interested in converting cow manure into electricity.

Economic Parameters for Corn Ethanol and Biodiesel Production AgEcon
Eidman, Vernon R..
This article presents current investment and operating costs of ethanol and biodiesel plants for alternative prices of feedstock. The price of these two fuels is estimated for alternative prices of crude oil with the existing renewable fuels policy. The excise tax credit, currently $0.51 per gallon of ethanol and $1.00 per gallon of biodiesel, is a major contributor to the fuel price and profitability of these industries. The analysis demonstrates how the crude oil price, feedstock price, and excise tax credits interact to impact profitability of these industries
